Missouri has a Cottage Law which allows its citizens to operate a home based bakery or food processing business. Home-based bakers must check with the county health department where you wish to sell your homemade baked goods. For example, in Franklin County Missouri you may bake from home and sell to the public but may only sell non-hazardous products: Amendment Franklin County Limited Food Exemption. Please contact the Franklin Co. Department of Health for instructions on how to label your food products. You are required to place the following on all products: Product not made in an approved kitchen. Find a listing of all the counties in the state of Missouri.
